  • Hello Fox News,

I am writing to you to express my extreme distaste in your broadcast regarding the University of Missouri’s recognition of Wiccan holidays. The cast was not only unfounded in fact, but extremely offensive. A few seconds into the newscast, Wicca was being mocked and laughed at. Meanwhile, we were the ones laughing at your newscasters because “Wiccanism”, as the religion was described, is not even a word
The report suggested that Wiccans celebrate 20 holidays where, in reality, we only celebrate 8. In fact, some branches of paganism don’t even recognize all 8 of these holidays. It was said that we consider Halloween to be our most sacred holiday.Wiccans don’t even celebrate Halloween. Our most important holiday, Samhain, sometimes falls on October 31st but iscompletely unrelated.
Finally, I would like to have you know that I am a male, 17 year old high school honor student with a 4.0 GPA living in the suburbs and graduating into an Ivy League university. I am not a “compulsive deep Dungeons and Dragons player or a middle-aged, twice-divorced older woman living in a rural area who works as a midwife and likes a lot of incense”.
Wicca is a religion that is officially recognized by the United States Government as per Supreme Court Case Dettmer vs. Landon. We often face strife and oppression due to our portrayal in the media, and your ignorant treatment of this subject will not make my life as a pagan high school student, or the life of any other Wiccan, easier in any way. I ask you to reflect and reconsider the action taken, and I hope that you release a full and sincere apology to the hundreds of thousands of Wiccans and pagans that you’ve offended.
For those of you that haven’t seen it, here is the link to a video of the newscast:
There are several petitions floating around and the internet and everyone can contact Fox News through email or twitter. Let’s try to make them release a public apology!

Hi followers ~ I know you probably don’t know much about Wicca/Paganism, but I’m pretty sure everyone here knows that Fox News is fuLL OF SHIT WOW!

In a recent Fox broadcast a group of journalists made some really disgusting comments about Wiccans/Pagans, as well as said many thing about Wicca/Paganism that just plain weren’t true.

Some of the things that were said/done by the people in this broadcast:

    • Stated that there are 20 of our holidays, when really there are only eight. Example #3409584 of Fox News not checking its facts.
    • The female reporter says “I don’t know any Wiccans but I think on a really bad day I might turn into one”. Absolutely disgusting. Imagine someone telling you that if they were in a shitty mood they just might stoop so low as to practice your religion. I really hope you would be offended.
    • A mockery was rudely made of Halloween. We have a holiday that falls on the 31st of October, but the holiday is not Halloween. Either way, this is unacceptable.
    • Implied that Wicca/Paganism is not a ‘real religion’
    • One of the three reporters says “Every Wiccan I’ve ever met is either a compulsive Dungeons&Dragons player, or a middle-aged, twice divorced older woman living in a rural area who works as a midwife”. Do I need to say anything else about this?

On the link you can sign a petition for Fox News to make a public apology for the things said. There is also a link there to the video of the broadcast in which the rude statements were made.

Even if you are not a Wiccan/Pagan, I hope you can agree that this is disgusting, and it would mean a lot to the Wiccan/Pagan community if you would help us be heard.

you guys know what to do :D
